The Charles Edward had a po; .ion of her pad(?'ebox carried away, and the Lioness shared a similar fate as regards the bulwarks nund her stern by coming into contact v Ith the steps, whidh were also daraaced to seme extent by the collision. The Charhs Edw:rd dropped anchor in the stream, and after tt c debris had' been cleared away from her paddle-wheel, she returned to the wharf and was examined by Mr Nancarrow, the Government Marine Engineer, who happened to be a passenger on board, proceeding to WePirigton. The Charles Edward is expected to leave this moiaing for Westport and Nelson. • • '■' • ,Thaj»s^Waipara returned from Westport aud Brighton yesterday morning. She sa'.ls for HokitikA at' 6 a. m. to-day. The brigan tinea Prosperity and Zephyr, both/from Melbourne, have arrived at Hokitika. The. Royal Mail steamer Bangalore, .which is entirely new in these waters, is commanded by Captain G. C. Burno, who is almost the oniyj officer known, all the others beinj ■' ' new faces. " The Bangalore is a handsome fuU-powercd steamer, one of the finest of the Fccinsular and Oilental Company's fleet Her length is 318 ft, and breadth 38ft, rid her gross measurement 2063 tons. Her engines are of 500-horso power. She is bugrigged, and a beautiful model. Considering the^hcaVy weather she expeiienced, the Bangalore' made a capital lun, and on future occasions we shall probably hear of her doing sti'! better.
