A SOUTH AUSTRALIAN GOLD FIELD

[S. A. iADVBRTISJBR.] , i j A man named. Bennett, who has been prospecting On Crown lands on Bonney's Flat, in the neighborhood of Blumberg, for some time past, has been rewarded with success. On account of information - the Warden of the gold, fields visited the spot, and, with Mr Scott, the owner of a valuable gold mind on private property in that quarter, saw 16dwt :3gr^ taken from two buckets of washdirt. The gold was got at a depth of 3ft, from a bottom of pipe-clay, the ground being of } a similar description to that in the workings of Mr Scott, Mr Hines, and Mr M'Cormack. Bennett's claim is situated; ; ■about fifty chains west of Kahili's, adjoining a section belonging to the South Australian Company, lately occupied by ft Mir < Smith; Other diggings about the same locality are obtaining ldwt to two tubs..'' There is a great extent of Crown lands open to the digger to the north, south, and east of this claim.. The great drawback Mr Bennett -and his immediate neighbors 'suffer is the want of water on ? the spot during summer, but there : ia j plenty in the holes onßonney'sFlat atno great distance, and the wash-dirt can be carted there cheaply. With the exception of the Mount Pleasant Valley, which turned out about LBOOO worth of the precious metal, this is the first alluvial discovery worth mentioning on Crown lands in that district. We hear good news from some other auriferous properties in that direction. Mr, M'Cormict obtained 17oz . 4dwt from his' first week's puddling oh hia section. The Mount Pleasant Beef Com- * pany have their shaft down 130 ft, and the , captain has had crushed a small quantity of stone from the leaders, and from it a beautiful sample of gold.
