Thuksday, January 25. (Before C. Whitefoord, Esq., R.M.) CIVIL CASES. Isaacs v. Schulhoff.— A claim of Ll3 for work done as a carpenter in building a house, &c, at Reefton, and for general services, at L 3 per week. The defendant filed a set-off for LlO 5s for blankets and clothing, cash and board. The defendant said he never engaged the plaintiff; he came to live at his place, and he kept him there more from motives of charity than anything else. A verdict was given for the plaintiff for L 2 14s with costs, the plaintiff to retain the blankets and clothing. Alfred Borgerson v. Julia Easton and Co. — A claim for Lll 16s for cash lent and for money paid on account of defendants to Mansbn pnd Co. The defendant admitted the debt. Verdict for plaintiff with costs. .'...'■ W. M'Nally v. A. Lardi.— A claim of L3l 4s for wages as a storeman at Totara Flat. The defendant paid LI 6 4s, with 13s costs, into Court, and disputed the balance. The plaintiff said his salary was L 2 per week with board. This the defendant admitted to be the fact for the first ten weeks the plaintiff was with him, but in consequence of discontinuing . the bakery attached to his business, he reduced the plaintiff's wages to 30s per week. The plaintiff said there was a conversation on thi3 subject, but the wages were not reduced. Verdict for the plaintiff for the amount paid into Court. Mr Guinness for the plaintiff, Mr Staite for the defendant.
