The Bchooner Isabella was towed into port about 7 o'clock on Tuesday evening. The steamer Murray sailed for Westport and Nelson, and the Waipara for Hokitika, on Saturday. Mr Creagh, chief officer of the Kennedy, reports that she left Nelson on Thursday night, 4th instant, at 10 o'clock. Experienced strong S. W, wind and heavy head sea on the passage to Westport, arriving there at 6 a.m. on Saturday. Landed 52 tons cargo, and left at 7. 15 p.m. for Greymouth, arriving at 6 a.m. on Sunday. She is announced to leave this port fur Westport and Nelson on Wednesday morning at 7 o'clock. We have had the pleasure of inspecting two models constructed by Mr Stick, of New street, illustrative of a new and improved method of raising sunken vessels, by which the snapping of beams, and other drawbacks incidental to such operations, may be avoided, and whereby a vcsssl of any size or v eight may be raised with despatch and comparative ease from any depth accessible to tho diver. This is accomplished by two well-known powers applied in a manner that can scarcely fail to prove successful. _ The adoption of it would effect a great saving of time, while to all appearances the raising of even such large ships as the ironclad Captain would bo perfectly feasible. The same appliances can bo safely, and, we believe, successfully, used for the dockiug of vessels, and, to the eye of an amateur, appear admirably Adapted to the port of Nelsou, as by their use a dock and wharf, capable of extension when needed, would be secured simultaneously. Mr Stick, we understand, is in communication with an American firm on the subject, and wo sincerely trust that his ingenuity and powers of invention may meet with the success they so fully deserve. The plan appears so simple, and yet so offective, that if the erection of a new wharf or dock in our harbor be seriously contemplated, it would be well worth while for the Government engineer to inspect it before any —m » » ■ . . • — ai__ X, «,t,m Wa rl .qfc y.-jtJi.->APftrr| to tho proposed structure. — Nelson bvcntng Mail.
