A branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is wanted at Sandhurst. The Bendigo Advertiser says: —"We noticed yesterday at the racecourse that one of the games in vogue, although it might afford considerable amusement to certain persons of a depraved taste, certainly gave Ho pleasure to any reasonable being. The game in question consisted in throwing sticks at a duck half-buried iv the earth, secured by two or three laths over its back, and its head sticking out of the ground. The person who hit the duck was rewarded with half-a-crown or some amount of money, - The poor duck bobbed its head hither and thither to escape the clumsy attempts 1 of- the competitors, but notwithstanding his agility, it now -and then got a crack on the baok of the head/
