The celebrated little yawlßob Kby, in . which Mr M'Gregor made so many I perilous voyages in the British Channel, was brought out here in the True Briton, and has since been purchased by Mr Holmes, of Holmes and Salter, solicitors, Ballarat. She is about 20ft long, with a 7ft beam. Her tonnage is only about four and a half tons, yet she has weathered gales that have caused much larger ships to be wrecked. "The Beechworth gold escort," says the Advertiser, "started for Melbourne •on the 16th instant, with 16,4120z 17dwt 18gr of gold, being the amount for the last seven weeks. We are happy to see that this shows a steady increase in the yield of this district, the previous seven weeks having only resulted in 13,2700z 4dwt, and the same period before that only 10,0400z 19dwt." After the Bendigo Handicap was run yesterday, Mr Frank Hewitt, the runner, taxed Stephen Brown, the rider of Little Dick, with unfairness in riding. Brown, who bears the character .of a very quiet lad, feeling naturally irate at being charged with holding back his horse, replied in rather warm terms, and consequently blows were interchanged, Hewitt receiving " one on the nob ' from the whip of the jockey. The wound was rather severe, causing , the .blood to flow freely. Brown was arrested, but subsequently released.
