[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir — Referring to a paragraph that appeared in your journal of the 25th inst., I may state that 1 am the applicant for the laud applied for. The land is situated between the old and new bed of the New River, about twenty chains inland from high water- mark, and five chains distance from any known or defined lead. Respectins; the remark that I had received over LIOO as compensation, I may be permitted to Bay that I received LBO only, that is, L9O for compensation, and I returned LlO for use of standing crops. 1 am, &c, Patrick Kerns. [We have only to add that, accord inpf to Mr Kerns' own showing, the land he has taken up is in the immediate vicinity of gold workings, and we refer his letter to the consideration of the Waste Lands Board before the application is granted.— Ed.]
