Prospeots are not very encouraging for the preserved meat factories in the Colonies. The Anglo- Australian, in the European Mail, writes :— '■' Australian and New Zealand preserved meat has arrived in larger qji'aqtttigs than ever, and I am informed by a well-known firm in the trade that consumption does not go on at a rate sufficient togive any material relief to the market. Prices aro still receding, arid have now reached a point which, according to my informant, must be altogether unremuherative to the preserving companies. However, it is very possible that an improvement is not far off. There are whispers of the approach of che dreaded rhioderpest, and fresh meat is rising.
