The Government have withdrawn the Gold Fields officers salaries from the estimates, as they have power to pay them under the Gold Fields Officers and Salaries Act. Mr Harrison gave notice last night, that on the question that the Speaker leave the chair in order that the House go into Committee ofSupply, to move as follows: — <( That in order to secure the application of the revenues raised under the Gold Fields Acts and Gold Duty Acts to the purposes for which such revenues were by Buch Acts intended to be employed, it is expedient that the delegation of the powers conferred upon the Governor by the Gold Fields Act, 1866, be withdrawn from the Superintendent of Nelson and the Chairman of the County Council of Westland, so far as the said delegation applies to the Nelson South-West Gold Fields south of the northern boundary of the Electoral District of Buller and to the County of Westland. Mr Harrison convened a meeting of Gold Fields members this morning, and nearly tht> whole promise their support to the resolution, besides a considerable party in the House. 3.20 p.m. Mr Hoos has just telegraphed to the Government that the proposed amendment of the Annexation Bill to secure Mr Lahman's seat as County Chairman for the natural term is unpopular, and urges that Mr Lahman, as a Grey member, should, with the rest, cease to be a member of the Council.
