A million dollars worth of silver have beeu obtained during the last year from a silver mine on Silver Island, Lake SuI perior. The vein of ore is from Bto 12 feet thick, t The finest lace ever made was worn by Miss Chase on her marriage with Senator Sprague. It coat 18,000dols for 6 yards, and a photograph of it is kept in the Fans magasm where it was obtained. Hopes are entertained of rendering the immense alkali plains in the United States fit for agricultural purposes by means of irrigation. A number of artesian wells , are to be sunk by way of ax* periment.
