The fourth series of wool sales opens ou the 34th. Total arrivals, 131,131 bales, including 36,445 from New Zealand. A further advance of Id to 2d per lb expected. Consumption continues on an augmented scale. The demand from abroad is small, but homo requirements are large, and high prices likely to rule throughout the sales. At auction, 1242 bales New Zealand flax were offered. Nine hundred and fifty were sold dearer, at rates from L2l to L 39 for superior well dressed. Australian hides, light, 6§d; first heavy, 6fd. Tallow — over two thousand casks mutton at L 43 9a to L 44 3s ; beef, L 42 to L 42 3s. New Zealand Loan Agency, §ths to #ths premium. Trust and Loan, 1 \ to If premium. Otago and Southland Investment, £th premium. Consols. — Money, 93£ to 93J; account, 93J to 93|. Australian securities are in active demand. Foreign stocks and railway shares buoyant. August trade returns show an increase, and money dear. New Zealand consolidated fives, LlOl 10s ; sixes, LI 13. Arrivals of foreign wheat and oats are larger, and prices for foreign wheat are la to 2s higher. . • Exports to New Zealand show an increase of L 65,500.
