Blue sky waa the prevailing report from the various meteorological stations yesterday. Barometer was highest at Wellington, Westport, and Hokitika, 29.85 ; and lowest at the Bealey, 27.41 . Thermometer was highest at Napier, 64 ; and lowest at Blenheim, Christchurch, Timaru, and Queenatown, 51. The little cutter Pioneer arrived in port yesterday morning, from Hokitika, laden with timber. The p. s. Charles Edward started on her return trip to Westport and Nelson last night. The s.s. Kennedy is announced to leave Greymouth for northern ports on Wednesday. The S.S. Rangitoto is due off Hokitika today, and it is piobable she will arrive well up to time. She will be tendered here tomorrow, and despatched with passengers for all New Zealand ports and Melbourne, via the Bluff. The schooner Maid of Erin arrived at Westport yesterday, from Sydney, to which port she was driven by stress of weather. The p.s. Samson, lately of Auckland waters, has changed hands, and proceeds to Dunedin as a steam tug. She has been purchased by Captain Clarke, of Port Chalmers.
