Mr J. Paterson, of Ballarat, has commeuced an action against Mr Lewis, solicitor, for malicious prosecution. Damages are laid at LlOOO. Mr J. H. Boss, of Kyneton, on the Bth September, rode the fifty-two miles between that town and Melbourne, on a bicycle, in seven hours and forty mimites. The Lieutenant, Surgeon, and Chief Engineer of H.M.S. Blanche were crossing the Murray at Echuca* on the 6th Sept., accompanied by Messrs Grossen, Luth, and Pascoe, for a drive, when the horses and carriage went into the river, and were lost. The excursionists, however, escaped uninsured. The Ballarat evening paper reports the sudden death, lately, of Mr George Cox. As he was at work he fell off the stool upon which he had been sitting, and, as he was groaning heavily, Mr Wenford sent for Mr Warner, chemist, and Dr. Dimock, both of whom arrived promptly, but not in time to see him alive. The deceased was one of-the oldest compositors in Ballarat.
