♦ [from our own correspondent.] Wellington, Oct. 1. Ihe Government have adopted the reGotninendatyon pf the Gold Fields pommifctee regarding gold fields water snpplyj by loans to companies. - There will be . no opposition to the Brunner and Greymouth Railway, the cost of which will not be locally charged, and the money will be advanced to assist in opening the coal mines. Mr Harrison intends moving that that' portion of the Middle Island Railway Fund which has accumulated for Nelson Province, be expended on making a main road up the Grey Valley. The Education Bill is passing slowly through Committee, but there are doubts ap to its passing this session. Mr Kpk uiovss, on Tuesday, an address from the House to Sir David Monro, for past services ; and also an address to the Governor, to elevate Sir David to the Upper House The amount of main road money already expended and contracted for in Westland is L 6103, &nd about an equal sum is still available. It is quite understood tb.at the Hon. John Hall has joined the Ministry as Public Works Minister. There is mnch. speculation as to the appointment of the members of the Board of Works. It is to consist of five members, who are no,t to be prevented from holding; seats in the House. It is expected that there will' be one' for the Nopth Island, and four for the Middle Island, which/ wiU'jbe com^ose^ of mem- : bcrsfrom the part 'of the country wfiere the large works are projected.
