The Ceres was close to the bar yesterday forenoon, but, in consequence of the heavy fresh in the river, it was not deemed advisable to tender her, biit in all probability she will be towed in to-day. ■ The Tararua, we learn, will not visit the West Coast, so that the. next direct steamer will be the Claud Hamilton, which is to leave Melbourne, by way of Duuediu, on the 14th inst. . The Gothenburg may be daily expected on the Coast, and will take her departure for Melbourne, via New Zealand ports, immediately on arrival. An instance of feline sagacity was afforded by the s.s, Phoebe on her present trip. A cat, which has for some years been on board the Phoebe, went on board the 8.5. Raujiitoto, lying at the. Wellington wharf, at th« latter end of last month, and was carried to Melbourne. On the arrival of that vessel at Nelson lost week, puss disembarked, and greatly to the surprise of her old shipmates presented herself on board the Phoebe on Ler going alongside the Nelson wharf, on the night of the 28th August, haying had a tour of a month's duration.— Wellington Evening Pott. The ship Edinburgh Castle cleared at the Customs yesterday, and will sail for London as soon as the required number of hands are shipped.
