Mr Lahman telegraphed to the Government to stop the construction of the four miles loop road from the seventeenth mile-post 'onHlfeChristchurcKrdad to the Greenstone road, to connect Greymouth with the main road to Christchurch, and wished tbe road from Kanieri to the Blue Spur, &c, to be ma«le in preference. / : Messrs Harrison and Tribe waited upon 7 the Minister of Public -Works, and protested against the County Chairman or anyone else making any alteration in the scheme recommended by Messrs Blackett and Hector. They received a positive assurance that the Government would no€ deviate from the recommendations of the" Engineer, and a tender for the construction of the road in question; is accepted. 1 It is evident that the attempt to stop this road was due to Hokitika influence.
