Mr Stafford asked to-day what action had been or is about to be taken, to give effect tc the resolution of the Timaru and Gladstone Board of Works, req/iestingthe Government to secure the temporary services of an acknowledged eminent triarine engineer, for the purpose of obtaining 1 a competent opinion on the question of ,the Timaru harbor works, and offering to contribute such proportion of the cost as the Government consider equitable? .; \ . Mr Gisborne, in reply, promised to send Mr Carruthers to place 1 himself in 'communication with the Superintendent and Board of Works with reference to the matter. Mr Carruthers was specially brought up as a marine engineer, aud had a large experience of such works.
