NEW RIVER DISTRICT.

[tfROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] August 30. Since my last communication, a nice little yellow nugget has been unearthed at Rosanna Terrace.; Tho welcome: piece, which weighed some -2oz 12dwts, looked quite a monster compared with the fineness of the gold generally found in the district.. It has since been disposed of by raffle, for the sum of Ll2; If pieces like this were more plentiful, it would be all the better, but it is a, good sign io know that there are some about. f The late rash to Rosanna Terrace is still turning put very well. Two of the claims are paying good wages. / . ... . Mining at Clifton is quiet, the poptilatioh being settled. There ianqtike same amount of excitement as there used to be, as formerly parties had to resort there for, their provisions, whereas now there are branch stores on thejsurrounding diggings, or.the provisions packed out to the^mtsn. At Soldier's, German Gully, everything seems to be improving. At Liverpool there are a few making wages. The lifte floods have- much retarded the work in the bed of the New River, above the Liverpool Hoteli,! Were it: not for these floods the ground wpuld pay handsomely. It is said that mining is progressing very satisfactorily at Woodstock. The Arg"as and Independent Companies are both busy, and the results seem very satisfactory to the shareholders. Some very fine parcels of gold have lately been sold from Lancashire Gully, where everyone seems to be Creek. Some new ground has been lately ' taken up, bin is not yet known hew it js. likely to pay. , ! Dignan and Company, at Cock-a-Bulla, have lately taken up new ground/ and extended their race. They have also built new huts, and are now fully prepared for a long period of work, and it is to he hoped the result will be satisfactory %a them. This company have the. &tgest race in the district; in fact, a.ahare^ras sold in the race and claim, the other day, and realised the handsome sum of Ll5O sterling. It is to be hoped that .the Government irill 16se no time in calling for tenders for making the bridge over the New River at Marsden. It is imperatively required, for during ordinary floods traffic is suspended. A few days agoj man got into a canoe and attempted %> cross it, but the current was too strong for him, and had it not been for the heroic bravery of a packer, who dashed ! into the river and brought the canoe ashore, loss of life must have occurred. ;
