Nauvoo, 111., the ancient Mormon capital, is now a great wine centre. Last year's yield was 130,000 gallons. A Roman, Ga., gentleman tried to eat three quarts of oysters. The roads were muddy, and very few of his friends got out to his funeral. Mr Chevalier's picture of the "Tahition Cotton Planiation, Atianiano," executed since his arrival in London, has been hung at the Royal Academy. The pure atmospheric colorings, so characteristic of Mr Chevalier's pantings, have been highly spoken of, and elicit expressions of admiration from critics of the highest order. Mr Chevalier has completed a number of views of Australian scenery, for "Australia Illustrated," in course of writing by Mr Booth, the author of "Another England," to be published by the Messrs Virtue, uniform with the "Ireland" of Mrs S. C. Hall, and "Canada" of MrN. P. Willis. Mr Booth is also engaged to write the descriptions of the colonial exhibits in the International Exhibition, for the Illustrated Catalogue, to be issued as a supplement to the Art Journal.
