LATEST COMMERCIAL AND SHIPPING. Nelson, August 11. There is no detailed commercial news In the money market, transactions in Australian securities were moderate. The Bank of England reserve and bullion are the highest ever known. In discount, business is dull, at a quarter below the bank rate. Numerous railway loans and mining undertakings are in the market. The dividend of the Otago and Southland Investment Co. is 10 per cent. In the wool market business during the month has been lively, and transactions mostly at an advance of a halfpenny to a penny over May sales. The arrivals were not so numerous as were anticipated from the prices expected and the active comp«-_ tition. Intelligence from the manufac turing districts is satisfactory. The mills are well employed, and stocks moderate. An advance in prices was realised at the German wool fairs. An import duty of 20 per cent, is contemplated by the French Government, aud wool ia profiting by the competition in consequence. Money and Produce Markets.— Tallow market is firm ; a ready sale, and prices slightly advanced for about 16,000 casks of Australian now afloat. Mutton, 43s to 43s 6d; beef, 41s to 425. Australian wheat, 59s to 625. The quality of Adelaide sorts is not equal to former seasons. Flour is neglected, as there is a large 9tock. New Zealand flax is in fair request at full prices. 14,000 bales were offered, wid one-half sold at Ll4 for ordinary, to L3O for good.
