PORT OF GREY.

HTGH WATER This Day— s.34 a.m. ; 6.16 p.m. ARRIVED, Nil. SAILED. Nil. EXPECTED ARRIVALS. Ceres, from Melbourne. St. Kilda, from Wanganui. Magnet, from Melbourne. Kate Conley, from Melbourne. Charles Edward, from Nelson. Murray, from Nelson. Alhambra, from Nelson. Claud Hamilton, from Melbourne. VESSELS IN PORT. Dispatch, tug-steamer. Angelina, ketoh, from Kaiapoi Mary Van Every, schooner, from Dunedm. Garibaldi, from Hokitika. Kennedy, from Hokitika;

The stormy weather of yesterday put a stop to all shipping business. The s. s. Kennedy remained at her moorings, and will not leave for Westport aud Nelson until this afternoon. It has been noticed recently that in connection with the periodical visits of the s.s, Waipara to this port, appear notices in the West Coast Tbnes to the effect that "the Grey bar is again silting up." This has occurred on the occasion ot several recent visits, but it is strange that this steamer always manages to leave this port so early on the flood as to be in Hokitika the same tide. That fact of itself should be a sufficient contradiction to such reports. The S.S. Alhambra left Nelson yesterday morning for this port, and she is likely to be here this morning, unless prevented by the strong weather of yesterday. She will probably be tendered this evening, and despatched with passengers and gold for Melbourne direct. A sudden fall of the barometer on Wednesday evening foretold the advent of another burst of bad weather, and Bure enough the propheoy was speedily realised here. There must have been heavy N. W. weather be.yond the coast, as, before we had any direct symptoms on shore, the sea got up quickly, and a heavy surf commenced to roll in. The s.s. Claud Hamilton, from Melbourne, which arrived otf Hokitika on Wednesday afternoon, had not been tendered up till last evening, and unless the sea moderates it is doubtful if she will be able to be attended to during the day. Should it be in any way possible, she will be tendered at Hokitika this morning early, and may get away from here during the afternoon, at which time she is announced to sail.
