\ movement ia on foot for the enlargement of Leadenhall and Billingsgate Markets. The proposal is to enlarge the market by extending it up to and including the west side of Dark House-lane, at a, cost of L 150,000. The proposal will meet with some opposition, on the ground that no extension of the market ought to be carried out till the approaches have been rendered more convenient. An American paper says :— " One of the most direful result^ of the, siege of Paris is foreshadowed in the announcement that over two hundred more French actresses only await the fall of that city to come to the United States. We don't need them ; and; there's plenty of that trash here already." Mr Baxter has given notice that he will bring a Bill into Parliament to abolish days of grace upon bills of exchange at sight. It surely would be a far more statesmanlike measure, and more acceptable to merchants and bankers, if he were to abolish them altogether, telegraphs and railways having rendered them unneces sary.
