A GRIEVANCE.
V| I fTO fSE SPHOR.] Sib— lt is a matter of surprise that your invitation to -miners to express their views on any subjects connected with their calling has not been more generally responded to y as there are many little inconveniences under which they snffer that ; w.quM no doubt.be remedied if public attention wepe cal|ed to them through the press, ; •/' ' '■"; ; ' ' . . Most people will, agree that it ia the dftty of the powers that be to prevent unnecessary inconvenience and loss of time to the man upon whose labor the s prosperity of the County wholly depends," viz., the miner, more especially where no extra expense need be incurred. Now niost people would imaginethiat at such central and populous mining centres as Maori Gully, Arnold, and Clifton, at each of which places a. sergeant of police is* stationed, the miners would have no difficulty or delay in procuring a miners' right. On the cSntraryj his Li-note is accepted of course, bxtt the miners' right is procured from Greymouth, thus entailing a week's delay and an extra trijT of ten or twelve miles. Upon th^ same" ground^, and knowjng that l Warden's Courts are held at both places, he wpuj.d expect upon tendering the usual fee io obtain a sight of the various mining registrations of the district. If he reiciuires this necessary ■ guide he must : take a trip to Greymooth for the purpose. Surely the officials stationed here could be entruste^ with signed riiingw' rights for isgue, and th^ pare of a registration book, j Another want 'that' ja coi^st^ntly remarked upon is a reliable map of the Qounty and Grey Valley, These, in my opinion, should be obtainable at every Poli(je ; Gamp at cost price. ; ) ; i lam, &c, • .
