We take the following shipping items from the Westport Times, of Thursday: — "Areport spread yesterday that the ketch Rose had been seen on Tuesday outside Brighton. The rumor, we regret to say, was without foundation. — The schooner Maid of Erin, from Melbourne, missed an excellent oppor-. tunity of crossing the bar yesterday. There was smooth water and a favorable breeze from the south-east, but the schooner was too far to leeward, and consequently unable to | make the entrance in time to take advantage of the tide.— The schooner Three Friends arrived in port on Tuesday. She is now loading for Charleston, and will sail at the earliest opportunity. — A boat crossed the^ bar on Tuesday, conveying water and provisions to the schooner Maid of Erin. The crew had run out of water several days previously, but obtained a temporary supply from a passing craft. It is three weeks since she was first seen off the bar." The Cltarleston Herald, of Wednesday, says:— "For some days past the report of the loss of the Rose, bound from Westport to Brighton, with a full cargo, has been rumored in town. Later information, however, without a doubt, gives us certain intelligence of her total loss, a party having arrivedin Westport from the Karamea, bringing intelligence that the remains of a vessel's bulwarks, also hatches, water-casks, and dingy, have been washed up on the beach between West Wanganui a.nd the Karamea. Fragments of gin cases picked up with Baillie and Humphrey's brand on them confirm the sup-j K>sition that the remains are those of the ose. The little vessel cleared at the Customs, Westport, early in July, having on board a cargo, consigned to Mr Thomas Nevin, the ketch being at the time under the charge of the owner, Bradley, and two other hands "
