THE ESTIMATES.

In reply to a question sent by us to the County Chairman yesterday, asking why there was no mention of the Capitation Allowance in the Estimates of Revenue for the current half year, Mr Lahman has courteously favored us with the following explanation : —

<c I have not put down the Capitation Allowance because the amount of surplus is very uncertain on account of the new offices created. Moreover, so long as we are indebted to the General Government, we cannot expect any payment, anyhow, not during the first six months. I mean to explain this to the Council to-morrow. — H. H. Lahman."
