FATAL ACCIDENTS AT AUCKLAND.

Mr George Ritchie, solicitor, . of the firm of Beveridge and Ritchie, ; was j thrown from his horse and killed instantaneously. The inquest was held yester- ' day, and a verdict of accidental death ( returned. There was an immense funeral s to-day. i On Monday, a child of Mr. Grove, J M. P.0., was killed on a tramway at the l ; Thames'. . , ' , The Industry, schooner, was wrecked at the Waikato Heads yesterday. i The ship Alexandria arrived on Saturday, after a passage of 114 days from London. She encountered fearful gales on this side the equator. A heavy sea broke on board, doing immense damage, and killing J. Moore, chief steward, arid Edward Day,- an apprentice. The James Patterson arrived from Sydney yesterday, and reports the total wreck of the steamer Auckland, between.Sydney and Melbourne ; her passengers and mailwere transferred to the Macedon, and conveyed to Sydney. -• 30,0000z5. of gold have been received from the Thames during the past fortnight. . ;.■■'■ The Caledonian mine is looking as well as ever. The ktter has every appearance of turning out a second Caledonian, and is taking out a large quantity of specimencs very rich. Tokotea and other claims at Coromandel are also very rich. Arrived.— Joliba, from Lyttelton f Tauranga, June 9. M'Kenzie, the contractor for the telegraph line, arrived yesterday, with poles. Encouragement from the Natives has been given him to extend the line to Shortland, avoiding the Ohinemuri. M'Kenzie tenders to the Government to extend the line to the Thames for a given sum, and proposes to find guarantee for effectually carrying out the contract, thereby connecting North with South. \ A few days ago a messenger, carrying ; Government telegrams from Cambridge 1 to Rotorua, was intercepted by the King's J cavalry, headed by one of his Executive, 1 who in quick time ordered him back. ■ Colonel Gorton and Mr M'Kenzie prof need overland to-morrow, vid Thames. The Cus- ■ toms officer this morning found the shed ! broken open, and the still stolen. The t body of the still was afterwards found in the harbor.
