The e.s. Waipara, Captain Bascaud, ran ttp from Hokitika yesterday afternoon, with the Greymouth portion of the cargo, transhipped ex Claud Hamilton, from Melbourne. The ketch Emerald arrived in the roadstead yesterday, from Lyttelton. She is laden with produce, and is consigned to Messrs D. Maclean and Co. Yesterday afternoon, the tug Dispatch ran out and took her in tow, ana was heading on for the bar, when the signalman at the station hoisted the signal " Cannot stem the current," and dropped one of the balls. The Dispatch put about, sind took the ketch out to sea, which is much to be regretted, as she may experience some dirty weather. The Anchor Line Company's steamer Kennedy arrived in port yesterday afternoon. Captain Whitwell reports leaving Nelson on Tuesday, 6th instant, at 12.30, for Westport, arriving off the Bullerbar at 10 30 a.m., and crossed the bar at 11.45 on Wednesday. 7th inst Landed the Westport portion of the English mail via San Francisco and 22 tons of cargo. Left again at 2.30 p.m. for Hokitika, arriving in port at 12.45 a.m. She lauded the English mail and 25 tons cargo, and left next day for Greymouth, arriving as above. She will leave on her northern trip this afternoon. Admiralty charts of New Zealand can now be procured by masters and owners of vessels at the Custom-Houses of Auckland, Nelson, Hokitika, Christchurch, and Dunedin, and at the Marine Ofßce, Wellington. 1 A collision took place in the Yarra on the evening of the 29th ult., between the steamship Dandenong, which was going up the river in charge of Pilot Murrell, and the Hercules, which was towing two vessels down to the bay. The collision took place in Hnmbtip Reach, and. a few_minjitesJaf fcer \No lives were lost. The Sea Nymph, which was in tow of the Hercules, also sustained some damage. We learn from a Nelson paper that the ketch Foam, 40 tons, John Ascham, master, belonging to Lyttelton, left that port with a full cargo of oats for Hokitika on sth May. When off the Grey, on the 17th, she encountered a heavy gale, which lasted for several days,' during which she hove-to. On the evening of the 19th, she was struck by a heavy sea, wbi<sh carried away her bulwarks, port cat-head, galley, and smashed her boat, and also carried away her mizen-mast about 14 feet above her decks, and half filled the ( , cabin with water. On the 24th, she sprung ' her bowsprit, and Captain Ascham then kept his vessel away for Nelson for repairs. At 10.50 p.m., when off the Sand Spit, she was struck by a heavy squall, which carried away her jib, and she became unmanageable, arid ran ashore on the Spit, where she now lies a wreck, imbedded in the sand, her hull much strained, and the water filling her at high tides. The master and crew, were kindly brough' over by Capt. Walker in the steamer Lady Barkly, from Collingwood.
