Captain Fraser threatens legal proceedings against the Times for publishing Macassey's affidavits and commenting, in strong language, on Fraser's action as Justice of the Peace in the prosecution of Cairns in the Magistrate's Court. Barton was discharged to-day. He has issued a writ against the Government for malicious prosecution ; LSOOO damages. Mr Hugh Carleton has been appointed Chancellor, and Mr Tancred Vice-Chan-cellor of the New Zealand University.
