Yesterday the p.s. Dispatch towed to Bea the schooner Mary Van Every, for Bluff Harbor, and the Kaiuma, for Hokitika, both laden with cargoes of coal. Yesterday morning we announced that the Claud Hamilton had arrived at Hokitika. and would be tendered there at midnight. We afterwards ascertained that the steamer had not arrived. In justice to ourselves we must explain that we received our information from Mr D. Girdwood, the agent, at this port, of Messrs M'Meckan, Blackwood and Co.'s steamers, and we had every reason to belie ye that the information he volunteered was correct, but -we regret to find that it was not so. Practical jokes of the description are senseless, and cause great inconvenience and annoyance to all concerned.— [Since the above was in type we have received a telegram of the arrival of the Claud Hamilton at Hokitika yesterday afternoon, but to? late to be tenderdered on that tide. She was expected to be tendered last night, and will arrive off this port this morning.]
