Wellington, J nne 6. The Provincial Council was opened today. The Superintendent, in a long speech, recommended local taxation for roads and schools, &c. ; the borrowing of LIOO,OOO on special security of reserves for the construction of railways and tramways ; the sale of land on * deferred payments ; and assisted immigration. He endorsed Dr. Featherstone's view on the Manawatu question. Dunedin, June 6. Mr G. B. Barton has issued a writ against Fox, Gisborne, Sea'dl, and Yogel, to recover LSOOO damages for malicious prosecution.
