The s.B. Claud Hamilton arrived off Hokitika last evening from Melbourne direct, and was tendered about midnight, but too late to enable us to receive a Bvunmary of her news by telegraph. She was to come on here curing the night, and will be tendered by the ps. Dispatch about noon. She will take passengers for all New Zealand ports and Melbourne, via the Bluff. A telegram in the Otago Daily Times from Auckland, says :— A strange report brought by tbe Wonga Wonga states that Webb's line is safe, having been guaranteed against loss for four months by New Zealand. The report was taken to Honolulu by a passenger by the A jax as current news in San Francisco, and it is stated here to rest on good authority.
