[per greville's telegraph company, beuter's agents.] Hokitika, May 12. The following is the result of the trials of criminal cases to-day : — Smith, for embezzlement, has been sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment. Patrick Cruise, for rape on a child, has been acquitted. Christie's case is still going on. A serious accident has occurred on the Hokitika and Stafford Town Tramway. One of the bridges between Stafford and Arahura, 70ft high, gave way this morning. Dr Smith, of Greymouth, was the only passengers. He had two teeth knocked out and his jaw fractured. The driver was much shaken.
