The Hon. Mr Sewell, although careful not to commit himself too far to the Hokitika deputation, was explicit on the subject of altering the boundary line of the Grey River. We expected as much from information we 'had previously in our possession. But. says Mr Sewell, the new line, of demarcation " should not be the Teremakau" — and there he left tlie deputation in the dark. He held out no hopes of extending the County of WestJand northward, and the inferences we gather are that either that the north watershed of the Teremakau will be taken as the boundary of the Nelson Province, or that some special administration will be given to the West Coast Gold Fields. Any way we shall be satisfied. Once let the whole Valley of the Grey be thoroughly

combined under one authority, and thus stimulate that healthy and hearty cooperation amongst its inhabitants, which is hindered by the existing division, and the district will prosper. There never was a time when the necessity for a determination of this question was so great as now. The opening up of communication between Greymouth and the quartz reefs at Murray Greek is imperatively required, and if tho district and port were under one system of administration the work would be speedily done, even if it had to be accomplished by public subscription. But as matters stand, nothing satisfactory is clone, and the public interests are allowed to suffer seriously every day of delay.
