The Grey bar is now in splendid condition With a fine straight channel, and ou Saturday, the Dispatch, while bringing in the Magnet found nowhere less than fifteen feet of water. The brig Magnet, which had been detained for several days in the roadstead during the late gales, was towed to the wharf on Saturday morning by the p.s. Dispatch. She will commence discharging this morning, and is announced to sail for Melbourne direct on Wednesday. The steamship Alhambra, 800 tons, T. Underwood, commander, cleared Port Phillip Heads at 5 p.m., on the 29th ult., passed Swan Island at 4 a.m. on the 2nd inst. Experienced strong easterly winds for four days, then light S.W. winds. Arrived at Hokitika at 4 a.m. on the 6th, came in here the same evening, aud was tendered by the p.s. Dispatch, which put on board her passengers and 1043 ozs of gold, shipped by the Bank of New Zealand for transhipment at Lyttelton to the ship Celeno, and brought ashore fifteen passengers. The Alhambra left immediately for Nelson. The s. s Omeo, although fully due, did not put in an appearance up to a late hour last night, but the p.s. Dispatch which had to tender her vent out to the roadstead in readiness. Should the Omeo come up she will be tendered this morning at 10 o'clock. It will be seen that the twin screw steamer Waipara will leave to-morrow for Martin's and intermediate southern ports. The optunity offered to intending visitors to the south by this vessel is not likely to occur again for some time.
