Both the West Coast Times and the Hokitika Evening Star have further articles against the Annexation of the Grey District to Nelson. But in each case the real question is allowed to go a-begging. They raise the old cry that we wish nothing more than the disruption of the County of Westland, and they call for a public protest against such a measure. The Times suggests a plebiscitum in both Nelson and Westland. The Star invites a counter organisation. Will our Hokitika contemporaries ever learn to appreciate the only aim the Greymouth Annexationists have in view ? They are no more in love with the Nelson Government than they are with that of Westland. All they desire really is, the placing the Grey Valley under the same administration. They think that Annexation to Nelson is the most feasible plan — that is all, but they would as willingly accept any other solution of the question. The Times, by accident, in the last sentence of its article, nits the nail on the head when it suggests that all the West Coast Gold Fields should be brought " UDder one administration suitable to their requirements." In that direction we shall be glad to cooperate, and would accept such a proposal with greater alacrity than attachment to Nelson. All that is wanted in this district is the same unity in its political administration as exists in its trade, industry, and general interests. If our contemporaries would support and advocate a special administration for the whole of the West Coast Gold Fields, we should meet on a common platform.
