A Washington dispatch to the Times says that the Vice-President Colfax has received an offer of a salary of 25 000 dollars a year to resign his office and take charge of a private biMiness. He replied that although he intended to retire from public life at the close of his present term, he felt it his duty to remain till the expiration of that time, and therefore he. declined the offer,
