A CORRECTION.

(to the editor.) Sir — In your notice of the visit of the Governor to tbe Brunnei Mine you say that " one of the gentlemen of the party, in answer to a question from His Excellency, stated that the Brunner Mine was larger in extent, with one exception, than any coal mine in England." As lam the gentleman alluded to, I shall be obliged if you will correct a mistake in the above report. What I stated was, that the Brunner seam of coal was thicker than any in England, with one exception. The exception I gave was that of the Dudley seam in Staffordshire, known as the " 10---yard coal," and which varies from 24ft to 36ft in thickness. To state that the Brunner Mine is larger in extent than any in England would be simple nonsense. I am, &c., W.
