On the 20th, all the regular troops had gone to Versailles. The National Guard is now the only armed force in Pari3. Barricading continues, and , General Chanzy has been arrested. March 21. Paris journals write strongly against the assassinations of Generals Le Coupie and Thomas, and recognise the National Assembly as the only authority. If the insurrection continues, the Prussians will re-occupy their former positions in Paris. Barricading continues everywhere, and the National Guards are occupying the forts. The Committee released General Chanzy, who was ill-treated, and had to go into hospital. M. Rouher has been arrested at Boulogne. SPECIAL FOR NEW ZEALAND. February 24. Efforts are making to obtain a quantity of rooks for New Zealand. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. have declared a dividend of 10 per cent. New Zealand wheat is quoted at Rotterdam 45s to 563 ; barley, 25s to 33s ; oats, 11s to 225. Preserved meat in more demand. The corvette Challenger arrived home on Feb. 20. The Marquis of Normanby is appointed Governor of Queensland. New Zealand flax market is quiet, but a fair trade is being done at a shade lower rates It is stated that the flax is not thoroughly prepared. Twenty-six hundred bales were offered, and twelve hundred sold at a decline of L 2 per ton on the average. New Zealand six per cents, unchanged. Fives are one-half per cent, lower.
