A COMPLAINT FROM CLIFTON.
[to the editor.] Sib,— As I ani a resident of 1 the Eightmile district, 1 feel the full force just now of putting the following query :— la a Warden's Court to be held any more at Clifton ? • Judging from ithe absence of late of anything of the kind, it is pretty accurate to answer in the negative. The last three expectant sittings of the Court (usually held once a fortnight) have been a disappointment to those attending ; and having business to do— far or near, wet or dry, hot or cold—rpeople must attend on a recognised day, and to this spirit of alacrity, of obedience, there is a response of induTerenoe indeedion the, parb;of those in power, whose public duty it is to be punctual in giving attention to the wants of a district. There are few things more provocative of discontent in a community, or more read£ly r eri^enders feelings of aversion to authority, than this seeming disregard— apparent ' abriegation^-tof -what claims a proper supervision, and the murmurs of dissatisfaction from those forced to come, time after time, wearing out hours of dreary,; anxious waiting, in expectation for a settlement of their affairs, are not loud bujb deep.j .;,.,; ; : ; it There is no concealing the severity of censure indulged in on this matter,. and Borne people, I believe, have declined to make further unprofitable visits to Clifton, not to be fooled over and over again. lam,&c, Observer. Maori Creek, New River, April 14.
