A man named John Conrode, a foreigner, working on the Hokitika protection works, sustained a painful, though not dangerous, injury on Monday. It seems that by some means or other he was in the way when a pile was being landed up to be placed in position when the log struck him on the upper jaw and inflicted an ugly wound, fortunately, however, not of a severe character. The injured man was at once taken to the hospital where his injuries were attended to.
