The present sitting of the District Court at Greymouth supplies another to the many instances which show the unfairness and absurdity of the existing boundary line between Nelson and Westland. The cost of the District Court is as far as the salary of the Judge is concerned divided in the proportion of one-third to Nelson and two-thirds to Westland— that being about the proportionate cost of his Honor's visits to Westport, Hokitika, and Greymouth. But this, arrangement does not take into account any proportion of the cost of the use of buildings, salaries of the IMQtnCir C/IMiri "ClerK- WiiU bailiff, ana Olio Judge's expenses at Greymouth for the trial of cases sent from the Nelson gold fields. Yesterday the District Court dealt with a criminal case, and also disposed of cases of bankruptcy sent down from the other side of the boundary. On account of these matters Westland has to supply a Crown prosecutor, a clerk to the Court, arid bailifi, the travelling expenses of both/ Judge i and Crown prosecutor, and the use of the Court House, for which the County does not receive a single sixpence in .return j The longer the question of Annexation to Nelson, or some other means of placing the whole Grey district under one system of administration is delayed, the reasons for' the necessity of one or other continue to accumulate. The cause which, the people of this district hax.e .for so many years had. at heart becomes stronger every day through the incontrovertible logic of facts.
