----ing partners, and the qrher of working partners ; the outfit of the latter to be provided by the former. 4 Chrisroas Flat, Berlin, has turned out, Remarks the Dunojly Express, 25th March, another nice little nugget of 281 b weight. We are informed that at the time of the discovery one of the fortunate party was comfortably sleeping off the effects of previous jollification, and no doubt this find will help him to a little further indulgence of the same sort. When will men learn wisdom ? At Catto'B paddock the perseverance of the miner has been rewarded by a piece of about 50oz. The character of this ground is such that the washdirt seldom pays for washing, there being an absence of fine gold. Early on Monday morning one of the claims in this place (aays the Pleasant Creek News) - was the scene of a rather peculiar collision between two parties of miners. The claim in question is worked partly by wages men and partly by triouters. For some time past the tributers havo been driving to strike a reef known to be payable, and the componys men have been driving to the same direction with the view of cutting the tributers off from the golden stone. It happened, unfortunately for the maintenance of peace and order, that the work was so arranged as to cause both parties to arrive at the coveted spot at the same time. Each immediately ordered "the others " oft as intruders, and after some time lost in arguing the point,, recourse was had to the law of arms; and the contest lasted with varying success for some time, when, neither party proving victorious, an armistice was concluded to allow of an appeal to the superior powers. The" following, from the Crmvick Advertiser of 29th March, gives a good idea of the produce of the Port Phillip and Colonial Gold Mining Company at Clunes: — "Mr R. H. Bland has compiled a very useful pamphlet, showing the quantity of quartz crushed, and the yield of gold, from June, 1857, to October, 1870, of the Port Phillip and Colonial Gold. Miping Company; Limited. An idea of the magnitude £of the operations of the company will be gathered from the fact that since the company started into work, down to the end of last October, the company has crushed 565,595 tons of stone, yielding 279,5350z 6dwt 16gr of gold, or an average of 9dwts 21gr to the ton, the total value of which is set down at L 1,106,894 14s lid. The j yield of the pyrites is included in this return. The returns of each week are also given. The highest number of tons crushed was from 14th October, 1868, to 13th October, 1869, when 69,319 tons were put through the batteries. Thereturns of the pyrites treated are only given from 1864 to 1370, when 2054 tons 16cwt were dealt with, yielding 69790z 4dwt of gold, of the value of L2f,737 13s 2d, the average yield being 80? 7dwt 22gr per ton, Mr Bland has left; space at the ■ end of his pamphlet for keeping up the record week by week." ■
