The s.B Alhambra, Captain Underwood, left Melbourne on the Ist instant, and made a rather lengthy trip, having encountered strong head winds for several days. She arrived off Hokitika on Saturday forenoon, was tendered by the s.s Wnipara during the afterncoD, and arrived of this port at 8 p.m. Three hours later she was tendered by the p.s Dispatch, and proceeded on her trip to Nelson. The 8.8 Wallabi, Captain Daniels, arrived at the wharf yesterday morning from Wan_ganui and- Westport, with the balance of her original cargo. While crossing the Straits she encountered the full force of the late southerly gales, and lost some of her top spars as well as a quantity of her deck cargo. She will leave to-night for Westport and Wanganui. The Anchor Line's s s Kennedy, Captain Whitwell, left JNelson for Westport at 7.30 a.m on Thursday ; reached Motueka at 10 a.m, and took in 15 tons of cargo, sailing at noon, and arrived at Westport at 6 a.m on Friday morning ; left on Saturday night, _ and arrived here on Snu ay morning. She will leave for Hokitika this forenoon. The ketch Jane Elkin and the threemasted schooner Garibaldi were towed to sea on Saturday by the p.s Dispatch. The former is bound for Kaiapoi and the latter for Hokitika, both coal-laden. The schooner Maldon Lewis cleared out at Melbourne on the 31st ultimo, for Okarito. The schooner Waterman was loading at Melbourne for this port when the Alhambra left. The smart clipper schooner Zephyr, so well known for her good passages in the New Zealand trade, is distinguishing herself as well in the South Australian trade, in which' she is at present engaged. She has made two trips to Adelaide and back, with cargoes both ways, and these she has accomplished within a month. The s. s Claud Hamilton, which left Hobson's Bay on Thursday, at noon, for Bluff Harbor and other jtfew Zealand ports, returned last evening. She had got about 85 miles from Port Philip Heads, when the stay of her port boiler gave way, and Captain Whitmore deemed it his most prudent course to put back. It is expected that the repairs will not occupy more than two days at most. — Argus. . From information to hand by the Balgownie, f ram Mauritius, we learn that the barque David Anterson sailed from Port Louis for Melbourne on the same date as that vessel; the brig Miss Kilmansegge was to leave on March 2 ; the brig Princess Alice about the same time ; and the Norwegian barque Pacific and the schooner Stranger were to sail in about eight or ten days after the Balgowuie. The barque Melrose, 56 days out from Sydney, had arrived at Port Louis before the Balgownie sailed.— Ibid. The Sydney Morning Herald mentions that the following information has been received respecting H.M. ships on the Australian station. H.M. ships Blanche and Kosario having been over three years in commission, the Admiralty have decided to pay them off at Sydney. H.M. steamship Megsere brings out the new crews for the two vessels, returning to England with the present crews. The Megsera would leave England about the last week in February. Captain Thrupp will succeed Captain Montgomerie in the Blanche, Commander Cballis remaining in command of the Rosario. H.M. steam sloop Basilisk, Captain Moresby, was to leave England about the end of February for the Auckland station, to relieve the Virago, which vessel will return to England. The following officers have been appointed to the Basilisk : -Captain J. Moresby, Lieutenants C. M'Laughlin, J. G. Musters, S. G. Smith, F. Hayter, H. C. Vivian, V. A. Br&dshaw, Sub-lieutenant E. P. Jones, Midshipmen R. A. C. Montague, E. C. G. Grant, C. A. F. Waters, S. J. D. Pitt, F. W. Shortland. The Basilisk carries six guns, and a compliment of 175 officers and men. Her last commission was on the China and India stations.
