A Frenchman named Ringer went out the other day with a gun which he had loaded with small shot to shoot sparrows in the neighborhood of Tottenham. Owing, however, to the cold weather the sparrows confined themselves to the housetops, and, for lack of sport, the Frenchman returned to town. Gn his way home he slipped dowri upon the pavement, and the concussion of the fall caused the gun to go off. Presently there was a fearful yell, and on some policemen coming up it was found that the small shot had pomple^ely riddled #ie legs of two Russian Poles who were walking in advance of the now prostrate sportsman. There was a great' crowd, and a rumor was set afloat that a Frenchman had. shot two Prussians, However, the wounded mon -were taken with the Frenchman to the station, when, matters haying been explained, the latter, was set at liberty, and- the former were told tb]at< they had a remedy by civil action; '
