Timothy Jones, a private in the Armed Constabulary, was drowned on the 3rd inst., while crossing the Wairoa River in a canoe. His body was found on the 10th, and an inquest is to be held. The steamer Napier is ashore at Wairoa. Her cargo was landed. The vessel, as yet, is uninjured. The Ngatiporou have returned to Wairoa after an unsuccessful search for Te Kooti.
