LATEST NATIVE NEWS FROM THE NORTH. [from our own correspondents.] Auckland via Thames, March 4. The Caledonian Co's reserve fund is L 10,160, and also pay another LlO dividend, amounting to L 28,600. Government interference is considered inevitable. Napier, Mar. 9. February 18th, Ropata reports that at a meeting at Maungapowhatu with the Ngatihuri tribe, Rewata, their chief, gave up his arms. Some of Hopata's people accidentally came upon a clearing, where they captured a woman. She mistook them for Te Kooti's people, and asked after her daughter, who is with Kooti. They ascertained from her that Kooti had gone to Papuni. They discovered a camping ground. Tamaikoha Rewera, a chief formerly Kooti's ally, said it was Kooti's. Bridge opposes Major Carlyon for the the Hampden seat. There have been heavy floods inland. Captain Russell and Massey have been elected members for Napier — country. His Honor Mr Ormond has been elected for Porangahau. March 8. Captain Porter arrived here to-day. He reports the capture of three of Te Kooti's people, and eight Ureweras. The expedition was nearly starved through having got surrounded by flooded rivers. Ropata is five days journey inland, and found a letter from Kooti to Omaru | Mati, an Urewera Chief, sayiug "be cautious, keep a good look-out, do not know when I shall be back to Kaimea." Apples are 3d tol^dperlb; quinces, l^dperlb. Rhodes has been returned for the Clive district. A man named Marshall was brought up to-day charged, by a person named Hawes, with firing with intent to do bodily harm. The case was remanded. A man named Baldwin has been killed by the fall of a tree at Seventy-mile bush. The Napier cricket team beat the Constabulary to fits. A canvas shoe, stocking, and foot with the shin bone attached together by ligaments, was found eight miles frein Napier. The shoe and stocking are recognised as belonging to M'Nalty, drowned 19fch November last. Nelson, March 10. Sir D. Monro applied to the Supreme Covrt this morning for a rule nisi, to show cause why a criminal information should not be filed against Luckie and Collins, of the Colonist, for libelling him. The rule was granted.
