A MINERS' IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE FOR THE GREY VALLEY.
[to the editor.] Sir — In the absence of any sort of local government to watch over our interests, and as matters of considerable importance to us all require looking after, such as the Government subsidy to water-race companies, the revision of the mining rules, &c. , induces me to suggest to my fellow miners the advisability of forming an Improvement Committee for the whole i of the Grey Valley, whose duty, would be to watch over the mining interest generally. Of course a Provisional Committee would require to be first formed, for the purpose of deciding the number and how the members should be elected, &c. - Now, sir, I believe if such a Committee were framed, it would be recognised by the Government, and would be the means of doing a considerable amount of good. Hoping that the above will be the means of miners giving an expression of opinion on the matter, the well-known interest you take in the prosperity of the Grey Valley will be my excuse for asking you to insert the above. - '• c I am, &c., J. C. February 28, >1870. :
