[from our own correspondent.] Westport, Jan. 28. Messrs Donne, O'Conor, and Yardley were proposed to-day for the General Assembly for the Buller District. Nelson, Jan. 28. At the Waimea election for the General Assembly, Alfred Baigent and Joseph Shepherd were nominated for the district, which includes Wangapeka and other gold districts. Mr Luckie was also proposed, but declined to stand. The show of hands was in favor of Baigent, and a poll was demanded for Shepherd, who was proposed without his knowledge. Nelson, Jan. 30. In the Motueka elections, Sir D a Monro aud Mr C. Parker were proposed. The show of hands was in favor of Mr Parker. A poll was demanded. The contest will be a close one. Auckland via Thames, Jan. 26. Ohinemuri news is to the effect that a meeting of natives, including Te Kooti, is to be held at Ohineroa, at which it will be proposed to revive old Maori customs, and forbid European intercourse. Also a meeting called by Mere Kuru, is to be held. Awiti wants to stop all Tauranga communication. The attempt to float the ship City of Auckland failed. She drifted into deeper water. A second attempt will be made this evening. There was a case. of suspected incendiarism last night. The only kerosene store here and its contents, 1200 cases, were all destroyed. LI7OO worth was uninsured . Fortunately the building was isolated. Auckland, via Tauranoa, Jan. 27. Another fire this morning. The Choral Society's Hall was totally destroyed. The building was insured in the New Zealand Company for LI4OO. The musical instruments were also insured. A school soiree was held in it till 11 o'clock, and the fire broke out at 3 o'clock a.m. The City of Auckland has been raised aud brought to the jetty. Grahamstown Mr Curtis, of the Pacific Hotel, discovered a bundle of lighted rags, wet with kerosene, under the academy of music. He offers LSO reward for the discovery of the incendiary.
