A certain styre.eeper — Alexander White — has had the audacity in taking upon himself the assurance to circulate a false report, by his own construction (intentionally private) among the business men of Greymouth, apparently with the intention of injuring my credit ■with these gentlemen, probably not thinking of the same coming to my ears. I shall mention the secret course that party has pursued in trying to damage my business as above stated. Months igo he mentioned to several gentlemen that I owed him the sum of £250, and that ne (A. White) could not get payment. Now 1 distinctly deny that I ever owed him any money.
