■ CHKisrcttUßCH.— The Lyttelton Times of Saturday last reports : — The grain market presents little activity notwithstanding the advance noted in the home market. The increased rates of freight demanded by vessels in port put a stop !f> aU speculation in wheat, as we uuderstaud that they now ask Is 4d to Is 6d per .bushel At the price now ruling for wheat shippers cannot afford to do any business, consequently quotations must advance further in England to admit of shipments being made at the freights now demanded. Holders have been doing little in the way of Sales ; good dry stored lines couldflbe purchased at 4s 3d or 7s; Id per cental ; farmers, for forward delivery, cannot realise over- 4s or 6s 8d per cental. Oats are giving way spine what, and at present there ate few buyers of anything ■ like a parcel. , Sateß are' reported " of Tartarian at 2s Id to 2s 2d, or 5s 2£d to 5s 5d per cental ; potatoe ditto may be quoted'at 2s 4d to 2s 4£d, or 5s lOd to 5s ll|d per cental. In barley there is nothing doing ; we note, however, that the Auckland market is improving. Flour is now* quoted at Lll, delivered in town. remains without much notice; butter is getting rather a drug at 6£d to 6£d ; new cheese realises 4Jd to sd ; haras and bacon of really prime quality are in some demand at B^d to
